Bilecik Saat Kulesi
One of the first monuments that catches the eye when entering Bilecik from Eskişehir is the clock tower. In the Ottoman Empire, the tradition of building clock towers began to emerge in the late XVI century. In Ottoman cities, this tradition became widespread from west to east in the XVIII and XIX centuries. The most important reason for the spread of clock towers into the interior of Anatolia was the decree that II. Abdülhamid sent to governors regarding the construction of clock towers on the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne (1901).

One of the first works that catches the eye when entering Bilecik from Eskişehir is the clock tower. In the Ottoman Empire, the tradition of building clock towers began to emerge at the end of the XVI century. In Ottoman cities, this tradition became widespread from west to east in the XVIII and XIX centuries.
The most important reason for the spread of clock towers into the interior of Anatolia was the decree sent by Abdülhamid II to the governors regarding the construction of clock towers on the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne (1901). In 1907, in line with this order, a clock tower was commissioned in Bilecik by Ertuğrul Mutasarrıfı Musa Kazım Bey.
The tower, which is 15 meters high, was built near the idadi school on İstasyon Caddesi (today it is used as the municipal service building). The inscription above the entrance door states that it was restored between 1997-2008. The tower consists of four rectangular prisms widening from top to bottom. The corners of the lower two levels are of cut stone, and the facade is of rubble stone; the upper levels are wooden. At the very bottom there is a round-arched door and above it, likewise, a window. On the second level there is a balcony. On the four facades of the wooden block above the balcony, there is a clock with a square dial on each side. It is covered with a pyramidal roof.
