It was built in the 14th century by Yahşi Bey of the Karamanoğulları. It continued to function as a madrasa until the beginning of the 20th century, and from 1940 onwards it was used as a prison for a period. The madrasa, which has been operating as a museum since 1969, underwent restoration again in 1997 after minor repairs carried out in 1975 and 1992- 93.
