Karakuş Tumulus is a monumental tomb belonging to the women of the Commagene Royal Family, located within the borders of Kahta District of Adıyaman. The top of the tumulus was formed by piling up stream stones. Because of the eagle statue on the column standing to the south of the approximately 20-meter-high tumulus, it was called 'karakuş' by the local people and entered the literature under this name.
To the east of the tumulus, there are two columns approximately 10 meters high. There used to be a bull motif on one column and a lion statue motif on the other. However, today only the bull motif remains, and its head part has also disappeared.
To the west of the tumulus, there is a relief of King II. Mithridates (69 BC – 36), son of Commagene King I. Antiochos (BC. 36-20), shaking hands with his sister Laodike. From the inscription on the column, it is understood that the monumental tomb belonged to King Antiochos’s wife Isias, his daughter Antiochis, and his granddaughter Aka.
