Abdülhamit ile Alman İmparatoru Kaiser Wilhem tarafından imzalanan sözleşme ile İstanbul-Bağdat-Hicaz Demiryolu hattını tamamlamak üzere 1907-1912 yıllarında inşa edilmiştir. Köprü 99 m. yüksekliğinde ve 172 m uzunluğunda olup derin bir vadiyi birbirine bağlamaktadır. Çeşitli yerli ve yabancı filmlerde yer almıştır. Varda Köprüsünün bir diğer önemli ve ilginç özelliği ise düz bir köprü olmayıp virajlı olmasıdır.
