Blaundos was founded by people who came from Macedonia after Alexander the Great’s Anatolian Campaigns, and it is said that the people of the city called themselves Macedonian Blaundos. The city, which was attached to the Kingdom of Pergamon and then to the Roman Empire after Alexander the Great, increased in importance during the Roman Period. Among the important structures of the city, which is located on a peninsula surrounded by deep valleys, are a fortress, temples, a theater, a stadium, and rock tombs.

The Ancient City of Blaundos was built on a peninsula-like formation surrounded on three sides by very deep and steep valleys. Its being built on a peninsula-shaped piece of land shows that entry to the city was made only through the northern gate.

In the 1845s, with Hamilton finding an inscription known to have come from this city, it was confirmed that the name of the ancient city was Blaundos. The phrase “Blaundeon Makedonon” in the inscription provides clear and definite information about the ancient city. With the death of Alexander the Great, the city fell to Antigonos, one of the 8 generals, also called the Deokodoslar, who were struggling among themselves to divide the empire. In 189 BC, the city passed from the Kingdom of Pergamon to the rule of the Roman Empire. The city, which was an important settlement area in the Roman period, was attached in the 5th century BC to the Bishopric of Sebaste, which was also a bishopric center and is located within the borders of Sivaslı District, Uşak Province.

Some remains of the city have survived to the present day. Examples include the arched entrance gate of the northern walls built in the Hellenistic period, mint sections, administrative buildings, some sections of the fortification walls, the Ionic-style temple located in the middle of the city and the temple of the Roman Emperor Claudius, and the stadium with seating tiers on only one side. The theater ruins on the southern slope of the city and the rock tombs located right next to them are also structures worth seeing.
