TRACES OF MONTANISM, THE LOST SECT OF CHRISTIANITY, IN PEPOUZA

The center where Montanism emerged was the city of "Pepouza" located in the Phrygia region. According to written sources, the city had a Byzantine monastery. In the monastery, more than sixty rooms on three floors, a refectory, chapel, kitchen, cross-shaped Byzantine graffiti, and Byzantine pottery were found. In addition, the spring water located in the eastern part of Ulubey Canyon was brought with the help of the Clandras aqueduct from a distance of 2,5 km to the city of Pepouza, which is thought to have been a large settlement, located in the area where the canyon widens, to the west of the Roman bridge.
