Çemişgezek ilçe merkezinde bulunan Hamidiye Medresesi'nin kitabesindeki ifadeden Sultan II.Abdulhamit zamanında 1861-1862 yıllarında yapıldığı anlaşılmaktadır. Harputlu Hacı Hayri tarafından yazılan kitabe şu şekildedir; “Şah-i Faruk-i Siyer Hazret-i Sultan Hamid Etti bu medreseyi talibi ilme tesis Yazdı cevherle de Hayri kulu tarih-i selis Merkezi Feyz-i Ebed ola bu darüttedris”
Hamidiye Medresesi uzun yıllar medrese olarak kullanıldıktan sonra, medreselerin kaldırılmasıyla Cumhuriyet döneminde bir süre Adliye binası olarak kullanılmış, bilahare şahıslara satılmıştır. Özel mülk durumundaki yapı halen konut olarak kullanılmaktadır.
