Cizre şehir merkezinde, Dağ Kapı Mahallesi'nde bulunan yapı, değişik zamanlarda yapılan ilave ve onarımlarla günümüze gelebilmiştir. Yapının üzerinde 8 adet kitabe bulunmaktadır. Bu kitabelere göre, caminin Musul Atabekleri döneminde M.1155-1160 yıllarında inşa edildiği, 1203 ve 1284 yıllarında ise tamir edildiği anlaşılmaktadır. En son onarım 2007 yılında Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü tarafından yapılmıştır. Bugün İstanbul Türk ve İslam Eserleri Müzesi'nde bulunan metal kapısı ve bunun üzerindeki ejder figürlü kapı tokmakları yapının özelliğini arttıran unsurların başında gelmektedir.
