Kale, şehir merkezinin güneybatısında 480 metrekarelik bir alan üzerine kuruludur. İç ve aşağı kalelerden oluşur. İç kalenin I. Justinianus (527-565) döneminde, aşağı kalenin ise 13'üncü yüzyılda inşa edildiği düşünülmektedir. Kale çevresi, yapılan çevre düzenlemesiyle çay bahçesi olarak işletilmektedir. Kenti seyir için kent merkezindeki ideal noktalardan biridir. Düzgün plan arz etmeyen kale 150 metre yüksekliğinde doğal bir tepe üzerine kuruludur. Düzgün kesme taş ve moloz taştan inşa edilen iç kalenin giriş kapısı doğudadır. Yarım daire planlı beş adet kulesi vardır. Aşağı Kale; iç kaleden kuzeydoğu ve kuzeybatı yönlerine doğru açılarak uzayan, denize ulaşan surlarla çevriliyken, günümüze batı duvarlarının bir bölümü ve bazı kule kalıntıları kalmıştır. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı tarafından yapılan restorasyon çalışmaları halen devam etmektedir.
