It is an ancient city in the Lycian region, to the north of the Xanthos valley. The name Oinoanda was first encountered in Hittite cuneiform inscriptions. According to these cuneiform inscriptions, it was stated that this place was a region of the land of Lukka during an expedition the Hittites carried out against Xanthos. However, no trace has been found in the city that would prove there was a settlement older than the Roman and Hellenistic Period. The traces of the oldest settlement date to the end of the 3rd century BC and the beginning of the 2nd century BC.
