Its location was identified from an inscription uncovered in Karacahisar village, which is attached to the central township of Milas district, and from coins from the Roman period. Among the remains are walls, towers, a theater, an agora and a stoa. The city’s chief deity, Zeus Areios, was a war god and was depicted on coins either as a bearded and helmeted bust or standing fully armed.
