Kars Müzesi

The City of Kars, which has the characteristic of being the first settlement center at the entrance from the Caucasus to Anatolia, has the characteristic of being an ancient settlement center inhabited for thousands of years due to having witnessed the passage of many civilizations. In order to meet the need to protect the movable and immovable cultural assets created by the ancient Ani Ruins located on the Silk Road and the dense archaeological settlement in the region, a Museum Office was first established in the Provincial Government Building in 1959; later, due to the increase in the number of artifacts collected from the region, the “Havariler Kilisesi,” also known as Kümbet camii, was converted into a Museum and exhibitions were held there from 1964 to 1978; finally, the newly built modern Museum building in İstasyon neighborhood was opened for service in 1981. Today, the modern Kars Museum is among our important Museums where Archaeological, Ethnographic and Stone works are exhibited.
