According to legend, Seyyid Battal Gazi’s grave was found as a result of a dream. Ümmühan Hatun, the mother of I. Alaeddin Keykubat, first had a tomb built here, then a mosque. The present-day külliye took shape around the tomb. The Ottomans added a madrasa, imaret, tekke and dervish lodge to the tomb and mosque. The structures, repaired by II. Beyazıt and Sultan I. Selim starting from Fatih Sultan Mehmet, were enriched with additions.

According to legend, Seyyid Battal Gazi’s grave was found as a result of a dream. Ümmühan Hatun, the mother of Alaeddin Keykubat I, first had a tomb, then a mosque built here. The present-day külliye took shape around the tomb. The Ottomans added a madrasa, imaret, tekke and dervish lodge to the tomb and mosque. From Fatih Sultan Mehmet onwards, the structures, repaired by Bayezid II and Sultan Selim I, were enriched with additions. Kanuni Sultan Süleyman visited Seyitgazi during his campaigns to Iran and had some additions made to the külliye.
