The foundation date of the Ancient City of Sebastapolis is not yet known with certainty. In some sources, it is recorded that it was founded in the 1st century B.C. During the time of the Roman Emperor Traianus ( A.D. 98 – 117 ), it was separated from the provinces of Pontus Galaticus and Polemoniacus and included in the province of Kapadokia.
