Sinop ili Durağan ilçesinde, İsmail Bey Camisi’nin (Eski Cami) yanında bulunan Durakhan kitabesinden öğrenildiğine göre, Selçuklu veziri Müinüddin Süleyman Pervane tarafından 1246 yılında yaptırılmıştır. İç Anadolu ile Karadeniz bölgeleri arasındaki ticaret yolu üzerindeki han, yöre halkı ve yolcular tarafından Durakhan olarak anılmıştır. Bu nedenle de bulunduğu ilçenin adı Durakhan olmuş, zamanla halk dilinde Durakhan Durağan’a dönüşmüştür.
