The area around this historical city, which spreads over quite a large area, is surrounded by walls whose traces can be seen in places. In the city center, structures of cut stone were built on numerous rock tombs. Some wall and foundation remains of these structures, all of which have collapsed, have survived to the present day.

It is thought that these remains were the summer houses of the people living in the Harran Plain. The structures were built in the style of Roman houses and consist of a courtyard with a triangular pediment, a roof, and walls around it, and a cellar carved into the bedrock beneath the house. There is a water well inside each house. Entry to the houses is through doors located in the courtyard walls. These doors open onto grid-planned streets.

In the east of the city, where the ancient city development decreases, there are rock-cut spaces with 3-5 interconnecting rooms. Inside the rooms of these spaces are niches of various sizes in a semicircular form. It is thought that they were first used as rock tombs in the AD 5th-6th centuries, and later as places of worship or dwellings. In one of them there are animal and human figures, carved onto the wall surface, related to a hunting scene or a funeral ceremony. Some of these figures, made in a highly schematic and stylized manner, have their hands raised upward.

Among the local people, it is believed that Prophet Şuayb lived in this city and that the city took its name from Prophet Şuayb. Among the ruins, a cave consisting of four rooms carved into the rock is visited as the Makamı of Prophet Şuayb.
