Zeus Labrayndos'un kutsal alanı olan Labraynda, eski Karia'da ( Güney Batı Anadolu ), bağlı olduğu Mylasa ( Milas ) şehrinin 14 km. kuzey doğusunda yer almaktadır. Sembolü çift ağızlı balta olan Zeus Labraunda kutsal alanında en eski buluntular yaklaşık M.Ö. 700 yılına aittir. 6. ve 5. asırlarda kutsal alan, sonradan tapınak terası olarak kullanılan tek küçük bir suni düzeltiden oluşuyordu. 497' de kutsal alanda bir savaş yapılır ve Karia ordusu müttefikleri Milet'lilerle beraber Pers ordusuna yenililer. Kutsal alandaki yapıların çoğunluğu Hekatomnid ailesi tarafından M.Ö. 4. yüzyılda yaptırılmıştır. Ünlü Moussollos da bu ailedendir.
