The ancient city of Kedrai, or by its common name Sedir Adası, is located to the east of Gökova (Keramos, Kerme) Gulf within the borders of Muğla’s Ula district. It is the largest of a group of three islands in the gulf filled with ancient ruins. The ancient name of Sedir Adası was Kedrae or Cedrae. It is thought that the island and its surroundings, which local people refer to as Sedir Adası, were covered with cedar trees (Cedrus) centuries ago, and that for this reason the island was called Cedrae.
