Ani şehrinin Selçuklular tarafından fetih edilmesinden sonra 1072 yılında Ebû'l Menuçehr Bey tarafından yaptırılan camii Sivas Divriği Ulucamiinden daha önce yapıldığı için Anadolu’daki ilk Türk camisi olma özelliğini de taşımaktadır.
