Safranbolu is a stopping point on the Gerede-Sinop caravan route, one of the most important links connecting the Asia-Europe main trade route passing through northern Anatolia to the Black Sea. Cinci Hanı, built in the city center in the middle of the 17th century, is an important example proving this function of the city. In the years when the han was first built, it consisted of 63 rooms and camel stables. Thus, Safranbolu Çarşısı gave rise to the emergence of various shopping places where production was carried out around the han. In Safranbolu çarşısı, it is seen that branches of business aimed at the production of crafted goods such as blacksmithing, coppersmithing, saddlery, tailoring, harness making, and shoemaking took place separately on different streets but together, in accordance with the Guild order. For this reason, the streets of Safranbolu Çarşısı are known by names such as “semerciler içi”, “kunduracılar içi”, “kasaplar içi”, “tüccarlar içi” according to the craft branch located on that street. Even today, according to the craft branch whose name they bear (Demirciler-Bakırcılar-Kalaycılar-Manifaturacılar-Boyacılar-Aktarlar, Semerciler-Saraçlar Çarşısı), craftsmen engaged in these trades can still be found on these streets, albeit in small numbers.

Yemeniciler Arastası/Arasta Çarşısı: Adjacent to Köprülü Mehmet Paşa Camisi, the bazaar consists of 48 wooden shops in attached order. It is the old guild bazaar where the shoe called yemeni was made. Until the end of the 1950s, yemenicilik was an important craft branch in Safranbolu. The bazaar, which met the shoe needs of our army within the available means during the National Struggle, has been restored and is used today for touristic purposes. The Ahmet Demirezen Yemenicilik Museum in the bazaar is open to visitors on weekends.
