15 July Democracy Museum aims to remind visitors of the necessity of walking confidently into the future without forgetting the past, by focusing not on fixing the past but on freeing oneself from the negative burden of the past and building a healthy future, and by encouraging the re-understanding and interpretation of this historical event in that critical period beyond definitions and abstractions.
In the museum; the process that took place that night until the official statement made at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on the morning of 16 July is chronologically watched by visitors through hundreds of phones, tablets, televisions and security camera monitors within a timeline, what happened during this process is experienced, and visitors also develop a sense of “witnessing” all the events again.
Inside the 15 July Democracy Museum, photographs of the martyrs who were martyred in the coup attempt, as well as Gaziantep martyrs, are exhibited in a separate section. On the exterior facade of the museum, there is a memorial wall bearing the names of 248 martyrs in order to commemorate the 15 July martyrs.
