Patara beach is the longest and most magnificent of the surrounding beaches. The 12 km long beach reaches a depth of 200-300 meters in places. Its sand is fine. The sea is shallow. It is also suitable for windsurfing because of the wind that almost never stops. Patara beach is under protection because it is among the places where sea turtles (Caretta caretta) lay their eggs. From Patara beach inward, barriers have been formed in front of the ancient city to prevent the wind-blown dunes from advancing.
